A few people have asked me my opinion about apple’s i-phone.
Thought on Phone and PDA
The overall UI- Muli-touch is pretty innovative something that I’m surprised it took a company this long to come up with a UI like this. I really like the concept of visual voice mail, (another innovation that I think took a redicoulus long time for someone to figure out but, not surprised that apple would come up with it.)
I think it was smart of apple to have OS X be the OS of i-phone but, then again why would they recreate an OS just for a phone/PDA. I especially like the idea that it runs Safari and can render HTML pages. As a web content developer having to create and maintain 2 separate websites is a pain because most of the current PDA’s that allow you to surf the web make you use wml . However most organizations don’t have the luxury or the time to develop and maintain a separate wml site for handhelds and trying to view a plan html based site on a blackberry or Palm based PDA is basically impossible. Most people will want to view web based content on their PDA while being mobile. Just try viewing a plan HTML site on your PDA while walking or driving. Chances are you’ll end up getting frustrated trying to get to the info you want.
All though I don’t use text messaging/SMS on my cell phone that much I do like the idea of apple’s multi session SMS.
Ok Now for the bad news. I’m not impressed at all with the video i-pod part of the phone. I tend to agree with what nowhere man
said in his recent post about the i-phone. Hopefully he’s right and apple will create a widescreen i-pod.
On Thursday I took a trip to Lawrence KS actually I had an interview at KU for a technical analyst position in their Liberal College of Arts and Sciences. It’s pretty much the same type of thing I’m doing at Webster. I won’t go into all of the details of the interview but I think it went well for the most part. We shall see how things turn out. I also got to meet up with Joe and his new bf Mike. I think it’s good match they seem to really support each other which is what a partnership is all about. I miss Joe we always have fun hanging out. I have to say that I’m pretty lucky to have a cousin whose gay and I think we relate well to each other.
I really appreciated Mike showing me around downtown Lawrence and I can really see myself living there. I miss being able to walk to work or to the downtown area for coffee. Lawrence unlike most college towns has so much to offer and your also not that far away from KC.
Despite only getting to be there for 24hrs it was a great trip.
